Empadronamiento - Help now available at the Coin Foreigners’ Department.
The cerificate of Empadronamiento is a very simple, yet important, document not only for you, but also for your local council.

The empadron is a document similar to the census in the UK, that proves that you are registered at your address and even if you don’t plan on being there permanently and becoming a resident in Spain, it is still best to register.

Apart from needing your empadron to then apply for your NIE and residencia, by registering with the town council (ayuntamiento) you will also be offered the right to vote in your local elections.  Even more importantly, it affects the budget for your local council, as each town & village gets money from central government based on the number of registered inhabitants.

The only way a town or village can prove its population is using the names on the empadron.  So the more people that rightfully register, the higher the budget for that town or village.

To register with your town council /ayuntamiento all you will need to take to the local Town Hall  is your passport, a photocopy of your passport and a copy of your deeds or rental agreement.

If your rental agreement is in English, you will need to get it translated.

The GREAT NEWS is that if you live in Coin, you can take your documents to the Foreign Residents Department in the tourist office in Plaza Bermudez and they will help you with the necessary forms, or you can go  directly to the Town Hall.
